Rev. Sylvester Howard

Pastor Emeritus

Trinity Missionary Baptist Church

Pastor Emeritus Sylvester Howard is a native of Mobile, Alabama. In May 1961, he received the call into the gospel ministry. In preparation for his inevitable role and responsibility as Pastor of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Emeritus Howard served faithfully as an Assistant Pastor at the Fruitdale Baptist Church in Alabama. He and his family relocated to Sacramento in 1967 and he served as an Associate Minister at the First Baptist Tabernacle Church.

Pastor Emeritus Howard assumed the pastorate of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in 1970. Under his visionary leadership, the church grew from 50 in the early 70s to a membership of over 1,500.

Pastor Emeritus Howard served as Moderator of the Northern District Baptist Association and as the statistician for the California State Baptist Convention. He attended and graduated from the Conroe Normal Industrial College in Sacramento.

He has received many civic and religious awards for his dedication, commitment and service in the Sacramento Community. Pastor Howard was awarded a humanitarian award during the Angelas A.N.S.I.R. benefit. He was affectionately known as a pastor‘s pastor because he was always eager and willing to teach, share his pulpit, and his heart with young ministers.

In June 2012, Pastor Emeritus Howard retired as Pastor of the Trinity Missionary Baptist Church. He is married to the former Inell Bumpers who stood by his side and faithfully supported his ministry. They celebrated 55 years of holy matrimony on January 20, 2012.

Pastor Emeritus Howard was a faithful and dedicated Pastor to his congregation. He was a firm believer in Psalm 121: “I will lift up my eyes to hills from when cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord…”
